The term "mindfulness-based stress reduction" might set off alarm bells because it might make old-timers think of the elixir salesmen of days gone by.
But Mayo Clinic Health System, in the spring of 2012, called the technique "a clinically proven, complementary-medicine program used to reduce stress and promote overall health and well-being."
