The local weather report a few nights ago reminded me again of the drought conditions we are experiencing here in southeastern Minnesota.
Despite the recent snow, our soils will be very low on moisture coming into the spring and summer. Most years, we plan to supplement soil moisture as the summer heats up and the soil's moisture reserve is gradually depleted. This year will be an exception because of the dry summer and fall we had last year. Much of the moisture in the recent snow will run off the frozen ground.
