Dear Answer Man, if you're a Charter cable TV subscriber in Rochester, you may have noticed that last Friday, they dropped eight analog channels: KSMQ, QVC, HSN, Speed, Golf Channel, NBCSN, VH1 and Travel.
My wife and I each talked with a Charter representative and were told by both representatives that this is the first step in a process to reduce by 80 percent the number of channels that can be received by Charter customers without a cable box by year-end. This means that many (most?) Charter customers will need to rent and install cable boxes to view (or record on non-Charter DVRs) these channels after analog support is dropped. I presume the impact will be greatest on Charter customers who have the basic or extended basic Charter services or who have non-Charter DVRs or multiple TVs. Both Charter representatives with whom we spoke said that this change was to comply with an FCC rule, but I don't believe that. What's the truth?
