MANTORVILLE — The summer of 2011 saw the first Civil War battle reenactment at Wasioja, site of the still-standing recruiting office from that war and the ruins of the Freewill Baptist Seminary.

Patriotic fervor had gripped the students at the Seminary in 1861 when the war first began and many of them walked the few blocks down the street to the recruiting office and joined up to help "… quell the rebellion." Most became part of Company C of the Second Minnesota Regiment, and earned the nickname the Boys of Wasioja.
