Olmsted County residents will begin paying new taxes on their vehicles and purchases within five months to fund transit and transportation projects as well as help fund its share of public dollars related to Mayo Clinic's 20-year expansion plans.

The Olmsted County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $10 wheelage tax and a 0.25 percent sales tax, both of which will pay for transit and transportation projects and raise the county's portion of public funding for Mayo Clinic's Destination Medical Center plan.
