So disappointed in Byron community! I’m very proud of Dr. Shannon and the Board for being HONEST, INFORMATIVE and acting with INTEGRITY! Like all things in society lately, people flock to the naysayers and believe what they want to believe and not do research and EDUCATE themselves. I hope those who voted NO really know why they voted that way and what they were really saying NO to ... not just what some locals told you. Luckily many of those people no longer will have kids in school and can hopefully just fade into the background.

Also, congratulations to the school districts that have the foresight and intelligence to pass their votes for their future! I have faith that Byron will come around someday.

Perhaps the next time contract negotiations come up with the BEA, the school board will start looking at some of the golden goodies that it has been offering up to the teachers unions for years.
Namely; tenure, pensions and medical benefits. That ought to cut a few mil off the bottom line.

If even one “no” vote was cast in the Byron school operating referendum election due to the pre-election mailings of censured former board member Phil Fuchs the voters of Byron need to examine their civic responsibility. If even one “no” vote was cast due to a voter not taking the time to check the accuracy of Mr. Fuch’s malicious, error-promoting flyers, then that voter should be ashamed. And, if Mr. Fuchs cast a “no” vote after continuing to promote the misinformation he admitted to knowing was not correct, then he owes the present and future students of Byron Public Schools an apology.

It’s not holier than thou, but it is definitely more informed than thou!
Medical benefits for teachers are not great. I know as we can’t have them because they are outrageously expensive. Again .... get your facts people. And pensions .... HA! Any teacher TODAY that can rely on “pension” in planning a very humble retirement! Eldopo or whatever, you are just a bitter, bitter person.

Ah yes. The old, “you must be ignorant to vote NO to a referendum” shtick.
To those of you who voted YES tonight to your local school referendums, you have given the addicts in the St. Paul capitol another shot of dope that will sustain them for another session. Kinda like the GM leadership that thought if they just kept pumping money into their hugely successful 1950’s business model it’ll fix itself.
Shannon runs a tight district in Byron, but maybe even 1 superintendent is too many. Why do we have 4 six-figure superintendents within 15 miles of each other doing the exact same jobs? I’m talking about Pine Island, Byron, KM, and Triton?
Public education is going to fail unless the legislature ditches the current antiquated autonomous district stagecoach model and designs a new education admin/management paradigm around what business has done with centralization and the elimination of redundancies. Now that we have phones do we really need a full education admin staff in every burg?
Rather, focus tax dollars on employees who interact daily with children in the classrooms.
That’s the big picture. That why people voted NO. That’s why enough is enough.

Joe . . . in this case, it was rumors and outright LIES that made many people vote NO. I agree with many of your points, but in the case of Byron, this was a dirty fight on one side. I sure hope Mr Fuchs is ready to “pay the piper” once the school board is done with him. Not a threat, but the lawsuit is needed to prevent this kind of dirty play from happening again.

“congratulations to the school districts that have the foresight and intelligence to pass their votes for their future! “
That’s exactly the elitist attitude that was defeated in Byron and elsewhere last night.
