The Austin City Council met Monday in closed session to discuss allegations lodged against Fire Chief Dan Wilson but refused to explain the complaint.

Meanwhile, Wilson plans to retire Dec. 31 after more than 25 years with the Austin Fire Department. He's been fire chief for nearly 16 years.

"It's been no secret," Wilson said. "It's just time to go. It's time to go do something else."

The Associated Press reports that the complaint against Wilson is that he created a "negative work environment."

An Austin firefighter is said to have filed the complaint.

The city council gave Wilson a letter of warning and a reprimand in April for his conduct toward a citizen at a city committee meeting on Feb. 12.

Austin city officials are mum on the allegations against Wilson. City Attorney David Hoversten confirmed that the individual in question is Wilson, but he declined to discuss the allegation.

Wilson also refused to comment. Firefighters contacted by the Austin Post-Bulletin also declined to comment.
