Leaves pile up at compost sites

Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN

With most trees starting to shed their leaves, compost sites are bustling throughout southeastern Minnesota.

Olmsted County's compost site accepts leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste at no charge.

The site on the east side of Olmsted County Recycling Center Plus at 305 Silver Creek Road N.E. is open daylight hours every day in spring, summer and autumn.

Finished compost can be purchased for a fee from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays at the scale house at the Waste-to-Energy Facility at 301 Silver Creek Road N.E.

Many other area cities and counties have their own compost sites. Some area stations include:

• In Dodge County, leaves, vegetables and fruit waste can be delivered to the Dodge County Transfer Station, a mile north of Kasson on Dodge County Road 21.

• Red Wing residents may deposit leaves, weeds, grass clippings and compostable yard waste at the Red Wing Integrated Solid Waste Management Campus, formerly known as the incinerator.
