1984 -- 25 years ago

President Reagan stopped in Rochester today for a 50-minute news conference at the Rochester airport. It was a boost to the congressional candidacy of Keith Spicer in his race against 1st District Rep. Tim Penny. Reagan became the fifth president to visit Rochester.

1949 -- 60 years ago

The Zumbrota National Guard ambulance unit now has a father and son team. Elmer Raasch, a WWII veteran originally enlisted in the guard in 1926. Son Charles has enlisted and is a new guard recruit.

Game warden William O'Connor warned children against setting traps along streams and disclosed that a duck was caught in one of them.

If you call the police today and a woman answers, you may still have the right number. The police department installed a telephone switchboard and will now have three lines instead of two. The new switchboard should speed communications between offices within the department.

1919 -- 90 years ago

A plate of waffles and a good cup of coffee will be given free from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 5 to all ladies of Rochester at Ed's Dairy Lunch Parlor, across from Empress Theatre.

At the Civic and Commerce dinner, Allen Hoban from Carlton College will speak on "The Mental Backlash of the War."

In recognition of the gift by Dr. Charles Graham of the fairgrounds, aviation field and buildings to the county of Olmsted, the board resolved: "That in appreciation of the magnanimous public spirit and extraordinary good-will manifested by the donor of the gift toward the people of the county of Olmsted, the tract of land above described shall be known as "Graham Field."
