A 21-year-old Rochester man accused of punching a bouncer at a bar early Sunday is charged with assault.

Ronald McGill, 1430 Fourth Ave. S.E., No. 209, is charged with one count of third-degree assault resulting in substantial bodily harm. Unconditional bail is set at $40,000 and conditional bail at $20,000. He returns to court Nov. 19.

An officer driving through the parking lot of the Aquarius Club, at 1201 Eastgate Drive S.E., about 2:13 a.m. Sunday was told by a bouncer that there had been a fight.

The officer saw people holding a man on the ground near the front door. The officer was told McGill had punched one of the bouncers in the head. McGill was arrested.

The victim told the officer he couldn't remember what happened and was having vision problems. He went to the hospital and was treated for a head injury, broken finger and torn tendon, the complaint said.

Other employees and a witness told police that the bouncer was near the front door with other bouncers as patrons were leaving. They said McGill approached from behind and punched the bouncer. The man fell down and was unconscious.
