Staff members briefly locked down Gage Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon after a parent apparently became agitated and started cursing loudly when talking with the school principal.

The school was locked down at about 12:50 p.m.

School returned to normal about five minutes later, Gage Elementary Principal Kim McDonald said. No students or staff members were threatened, she said.

"We go into a lock down when we have a tense situation," McDonald said. "I was the one that interacted with him, and I wasn't under any threat."

Rochester police were called, but the parent left the school without incident before they arrived.

Gage Elementary School, 1300 40th St. N.W., is the fifth-largest of 17 elementary schools in Rochester.
