The Vikes are not a championship team. They played 58 minutes of good ball, but gave up 21 points in less than 2 minutes of playing time. You CANNOT let a team score 2 defensive touchdowns in 1 game. A champion will play the whole 60 minutes.
The inept defense with less than 2 minutes left in the first half was a usual Viking coaches call. A good quarterback will see the soft coverage and eat it up.
Before you start saying the Vikes have a great record at 6 and 1, look at the teams they have played. IF they had played teams with winning records they would be around 2-5 or 3-4 at best.
They do have great players. I wish the coaching staff was half as great as the team.

If the officials dont call a tripping penalty and take a TD away. the score would have been 24/20 Vikes win. Its to bad when the officials effect the outcome of a game!!
With that said I agree that the coaching staff of the Vikes leaves alot to be desired, starting with Childress!

Why was Peterson on the sidelines when the ball went through Chester’s hands? Your best player should be on the field with the game on the line.

First off,the Ap guy who wrote the story does not know what he is talking about. The ball went through Chester’s hands and Fox was right there to catch it.Fox did not step in front of Favre’s pass.I agree with dirtracer 94 about that tripping call.It was a terrible call and cost us the lead.VA,who cares who we beat and what their record may be.A win is a win.We just went toe to toe with the defending Super Bowl champions on their home field and nearly pulled out a win.At 6-1 we are a very good football team and we will rebound next week at GB.

Was hoping Vikes could beat the Steelers to go to Green Bay with great confidence. Why in the heck did Favre put the ball in the air when they were near the end zone in scoring position? I agree Peterson should have been running the ball (even if a bit winded)at that last turnover.

The Vikings were the better team yesterday. I believe the Steelers had only one offensive touchdown. That’s good for the Vikings defense as well. That “tripping” call did cost the Vikings the game. That was the difference between playing with the lead, or being down by 10. The Vikes will be ok, they will beat GB next week and put the smack down on the Bears the second half.

Tim, Good Points, we nearly beat the SB champs at home even with the crappy calls and missed chances, almost pulled out the win, does show alot of the Vikings team, we have the tools just need better play calling during crucial times plus kicker needs to punt better....

Plus had to laugh a little when AP mowed over that defender and the Ref got plowed over wonder if they will start wearing helmets next season…

This couldn’t have worked out better for the Vikes. They dominate, get a TD taken away which results in a 14 point swing. But more importantly, they lose...in October and the week before the GB game. I’ll take this loss and the learning experience over one next week and/or one in December/January.
Yes, Childress needs to start calling plays like a champion. Taking a knee with 30 seconds left in the half with Brett Farve at Q is taking away points.
Time to start trusting your players, Childress. Zigi isn’t paying Favre to take a knee.

Jo, they guy AP plowed over is Gay. AP rolled over him like a rabbit trying to stop a freightliner. I totally believe that Dugan intentionally took out the ref. There was nobody within 10 yards in any direct, and Dugan turned, saw him, and put his hands up...five yards before he hit the ref. Plenty of time to go around him. That was the same ref who made the call on the leg whip.

what a bunch of sore losers and experts of course on how the game should go ... do you really believe this Viking team could go undefeated for the whole season ... Even the Pittsburg Steelers couldn’t beat the Chicago Bears on any given Sunday .... its all a crap shoot from the start ... The Vikings played good ball, stayed with a team that had a great defense and lost on plays that could of gone the same for any team ... last week the experts were calling for Childress’s head for running three plays and going for a field goal with our best running back on the field… this week, they’re calling for that very thing and why is Favre throwing with Peterson on the bench ... It was hard fought football, unfortunately it just wasn’t our week …that’s all ... you fair weather fans you ... haha

IF they had played teams with winning records they would be around 2-5 or 3-4 at best.
The Steelers were the first team with a winning record. Can you honestly say if they had been playing teams at the Steelers caliber that they would still be 6-1?
Don’t get me wrong. The Vikes have the personel and the talent to win it all. The coaching staff has to call the game to win and play the whole 60 minutes. They sometimes come across like they play not to lose or try not to run the score up.
Yes. The tripping call was bogus and resulted in a 14 point swing. The point is, good teams find a way to win. So so teams find a way to lose. Or in this case, a so so coaching staff.....
This team is better than to settle for 3 points after a first and goal on the 1 yard line. Take away the 21 points scored in less then 2 minutes of playing time and the Vikes outplayed the Steelers for 58 minutes. Giving up 2 defensive TD’s in one quarter is not going to get games won.

6-1 is a great start...No matter how you look at it… And we played some good teams...GB is good...49ers were good...Baltimore is good… Sorry we didnt pick our own schedule...Anywho, we played great...BAD mistakes cost us the game...We had that game...Held their two best recievers to a combined low...Somewhere under 30 yards or so...COMBINED!!!! So we walk away with a loss and thats it...We are still the better team...In the end you will see...SKOL VIKINGS!!!

Gotta root for the home team...and I do!
In the end, what was expected to be an offensive duel between Favre and Roethlisberger turned out to be a defensive duel. The Vikes played well, but the Steeler’s D played better (AP had only 69 yards for example).
The Vikes will at a minimum reach the NFC Championship game.
