Terrific Cougars defense

ZUMBROTA -- Zumbrota-Mazeppa put together one of its best defensive efforts of the year, and used it to stuff No. 7 seed Chatfield.

The Cougars (No. 2 seed, 7-2) limited the Gophers to 114 yards rushing and 42 passing. They also limited Chatfield star running back Justin Buss to just 80 yards on 25 carries.

Chatfield ran 35 times and passed eight.

Offensively, Ryan Anderson paced Z-M with 82 yards on 12 carries. He scored three touchdowns, from 1, 3 and 3 yards. Bryan Hinrichs added 48 yards rushing on five carries.

It was Z-M's third straight win.
