GOODHUE -- Goodhue was at its defensive best on Saturday, using its stifling ways to down Rushford-Peterson 21-7 in the Section One, Class A football semifinals.
The win was also a monumental one for the No. 2 seeded Wildcats, as it gave 12-year coach Clair Austin his 100th career win. It was also Goodhue's fifth straight victory overall, raising its record to 6-3. No. 3 seed R-P finished at 5-4.
The Wildcats played their best defensive game of the season, holding the Trojans to 69 yards rushing and 65 yards passing. That included limiting R-P standout running back Logan Brand to 27 yards rushing.
"That was pretty impressive," Austin said. "(R-P) is a solid football team. We played really well."
Goodhue was also excellent offensively, totaling 220 yards through the air and 155 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Blayne Erie continued his recent hot ways, completing 15 of 25 passes, with two touchdowns and one interception. Erie has now completed 28 of his last 40 attempts, for 410 yards in two games.
Erie had touchdown passes of 38 yards to Casey Buck and 27 yards to Brandon Hadler.
