ZUMBROTA -- Zumbrota-Mazeppa got defensive in advancing to the Class AA, Section One title game for the second straight season.

The second-seeded Cougars intercepted five passes and held No. 6 Dover-Eyota to just 117 yards in a 27-0 victory in the section semifinals on Saturday.

Z-M (7-2) advances to face No. 1 Caledonia in the section title game for the second straight year.

The Cougars broke the game open with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Paukert caught scoring passes of 40 and 53 yards from Justin Cole. Their 40-yard TD was the lone score of the first three quarters.

Cole was 6-for-16 for 135 yards and an interception. He also intercepted two passes.

Ryan Anderson had 15 carries for 92 yards and 10-yard scoring run for Z-M. Josh Shirley added 79 yards on nine carries and a 7-yard TD run.

The Cougars had 261 yards rushing and 179 passing.

Dover-Eyota (4-6) was held to 81 yards rushing and 36 passing. Jeff Borst was 5-for-16 for 36 yards with five interceptions. Shawn Berg had 25 carries for 67 yards.

Josh Stanton picked off three passes for Z-M.
