WELLS -- It took Triton one half to wake up. But once the Cobras did, they were overpowering on Saturday night in the Section Two, Class AA football semifinals.
Triton, the No. 4 seed, scored 28 unanswered points in the second half and went on to a 28-15 win over No. 1 seed United South Central.
"We cranked it up in the second half," Triton coach Don Henderson said. "Mostly, I think it was just our kids getting (upset) going into the second half. I don't think they were ready for their season to be over yet."
Triton trailed 7-0 at intermission. It would have been more onesided had it not been for the Cobras' stout defense, which lasted all game. Triton held USC, normally an excellent running team, to just 71 yards rushing on 35 carries.
Offensively, Triton was able to do serious damage in the second half. Logan Erdmann led the way, finishing the game with 78 yards on 15 carries, with a touchdown. Connor Henderson added 46 yards on six carries, and quarterback Logan Spitzack finished 4-for-5 passing for 104 yards. That came after Spitzack was 0-for-3 in the first half.
Triton had 40 yards of offense in the first half and 200 yards in the second.
