In observance of Veterans Day, the Rochester Ice Hawks are holding Military Appreciation Weekend on Friday and Saturday.

All current and retired military personnel, with proper identification, will receive free admission to the Ice Hawks games on Friday and Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.

There will be a special presentation of our Country's colors on both nights.

Also this weekend, members of the Ice Hawks fan club, the Hawks Nest, will be selling stuffed animals for the annual Stuffed Animal Toss, which takes place after the Ice Hawks' First Goal. All proceeds will go to local Military Family Readiness Groups.

It's a huge weekend for the team on the ice as well. The Ice Hawks will be playing the Minnesota Junior Hockey League-leading Granite City Lumberjacks on both Friday and Saturday.

The Lumberjacks were national semifinalists last season, and they're off to a 13-4 start in the MnJHL. They are currently three points ahead of the second-place Twin Cities Northern Lights.

The Ice Hawks are 9-3 this season and are riding a three-game winning streak.

The Lumberjacks boast one of the league's best forwards in Bobby Thompson, who has 19 points through 16 games, and two of the league's best goalies in Matt Grove and Henrik Wood.

The Ice Hawks won last Saturday, 12-1 over the Minnesota Wildcats, despite a depleted lineup. Due to injuries and sickness, the Ice Hawks barely had enough players to fill out a full lineup.

Ice Hawks coach Nick Fatis said he expects the bulk of his players to be back in action this weekend.
