Why does the riverbed need to be restored to its “original condition”, Randy?
Once the dam is removed, the riverbed will most likely go back to its original meandering course. Do you think it would do otherwise? Look at it now. Nature is doing a fine job of undoing mankind’s fine handiwork.
Are you suggesting the the taxpayer should be responsible for replanting trees, native grasses, and various indigenous aquatic species, to the condition it was in before the dam was built? That if we do not want to fund your shallow, mud bottom artificial lake, we should have to pay for in some other punitive manner?
Let’s call it what it is, Randy. You want a lovely lake in your backyard, but you don’t want to pay for it. Nothing would drive up your home values than a nice, sylvan-esque lake. You Oronoco citizens have been fat and happy with your dam/lake for many years without the least concern for it’s cost or maintenance.
It is time for Oronoco homeowners to put it’s money where its mouth is.

Instead of spending money fixing the “lake”, Oronoco should be spending the money to put in a quality sewer and water system....makes much more sense.

I’m actually torn on this one. Lake Shady does stop a lot of crud from flowing down to Lake Zumbro. However, in its present state, I doubt it’s doing much good. In the end, I think having a very nice stretch of river would be much better than a having to constantly maintain a lake of questionable quality.
Also, returning the area to its natural state with native vegetation could be a showcase project for ‘The Zumbro Watershed Partnership’ whose charter it is to work with the community to improve the Zumbro River watershed water quality.

There comes a time to call it quits on an artificial dam. There was BIG HOOP-DEE-DOO when the dam broke in Stewartville.
In the end, unless YOU as a private citizen comes forward and pays the big bucks dredging a man-made lake....forget it.
Let nature take it’s course. The DNR will do that cheaply.
For you lefty arrogant lakeside home owners that feel the gummit (meaning EVERYONE ELSE) to pay for the dredging...may you burn in H*ll.
Typical selfish attitude that likes to keep the value of their property UP, while nature dies.
