Government must either do more with less or cut spending. That’s what taxpayers do.

No, Tom. It’s time to restructure public education. Consolidate administration services, get back to the basics with curriculum, and most importantly, reduce the burden on our teachers to be social workers / surrogate parents.
Like everything else, public education got fat and happy doing the “extras” (mostly overlapping parental responsibilities) because the tax revenue was there. In the new economy it’s not, and it’s time for the legislature to reduce the liberal social-issue mandates.
Public school parenting doesn’t help us compete in the new world economy. Our dollars should be focused on that.

Average Joe it might be hard to get back to the way we were.
Teachers are not allowed to be disciplinaruians becasue the parents will cry fowl.
I agree get back to the basics and introduce some discipline for the students and then the parents.

We don’t need to spend MORE, we need to spend SMART. The homeschoolers and the privately run schools are turning out superior products on less...sometimes much less time and money invested. the PARENTS’ money, the KIDS’ time… Little or no time on the bus (good place to catch air-borne diseases and bad attitudes. Minimal (or no) time on competitive sports. Bag lunches. Most of all SMALL classes and dedicated TEACHERS. Often the administrators also teach a class… Teamwork…
