Referendum continues excellence in schools

10/27/2009 10:55:03 AM

We are strongly in favor of the 10-year operating referendum for our Austin Public Schools that we will be voting on Nov. 3. Education of our children is a high priority.

When people are looking at a community and deciding where they want to live, the education of their children is high on their list. We are blessed to have excellent teachers, administration, staff, buildings and equipment. Passing this referendum will help us continue to be able to provide these for our students. How fun it is to talk about our schools to people checking out Austin! Our students are receiving a great education that is helping them to go out and make the world a better place. We want to be able to move forward with this high quality education.

The Austin School District uses the revenue that they receive very prudently. We have a balanced budget for 2009-2010; over $7 million in grants have been received in recent years and the school administrators and several bargaining groups have accepted a freeze on salaries.

Our three daughters all graduated from the Austin school system and we are thankful for the strong educational background that they received. We are proud to live in a community where education is highly valued.

Please get out and vote yes for the levy referendum on Nov. 3. Let's all get involved in continuing to ensure excellence in our educational system.
