Thank you, Neil, for moving the dialogue of America forward and bringing up such an important part of today’s world.
Are you KIDDING ME, P-B? Did you actually PRINT THIS?!?!

Neil should get together with George Will who wrote a column a few months ago lamenting how many people are wearing jeans these days (and even to the airport!!) They could commiserate together. And just imagine if they saw a guy with both a scruffy beard AND blue jeans ... oh man, their heads would likely explode.

Interesting that he would write this. I am wondering why teachers are not better dressed in the classroom.
The teacher of the year was in blue jeans, this is part of the problem. When “I” went to school we had to live up to a dress code and usually teachers were very well dressed (except for the coaches).
Now I can see why the kids don’t care either.

Neil, I’m glad you pointed this out. I’ve often thought the same thing, the only reason its acceptable to our culture, is because money and fame seem to make everything alright and permissible. Class and decorum take a back seat to trashy and lasciviousness. And as for the 1st poster on here when did it become a rule that letters printed in here had to meet (your all puffed up level of importance to make the cut) funny if it was so unimportant, why did you have to take time from your precious day to type out an opinion to it, when you could have just busily went on to the (really important stuff) whatever that is. Thanks again Neil, I’ve heard many people at work and out in the public talk about the loss of proper dress and mannners, then you look at who our children are mimmicking from the role model section and you see the domino effect.

Does it really matter? Who really cares?

Ripper, if it matters so little, why would you even bother to comment at all?
But see you did comment, something that matters so little to you is worth your time. Well maybe a different topic interest somebody w/o your super intellectual accuteness,so try wrapping your superior mind around that concept. There is this thing called freedom of speech, why don’t you google it?

Since when are people required to dress/groom according to Neil’s standards? Sheesh. Grandma always said if you don’t like the way someone looks, don’t look at them. Live and let live.

Stalker, coming from a “SWF in search of… no, wait. Obsessive, compulsive aging hippie.” (your own self-descripition) this (whatever goes—goes mentality} is perfectly understandable and warrants no further explanation.Other then: there’s a reason your still single, and OBC.

I love to wear jeans and simple cloths. I wear them to church all the time. I Think you should wear what you want as long as it is clean. I am sure God does’t care what I wear as long as I am in his house. Some of these actors could be getting ready for there next roll in a movies and need not to shave.

Not sure if the scruffy part is pointed at Brent Farve. But ol’ gray beard looks so silly.
Shave your face old man!

I also was dismayed to see the teacher of the year in jeans. How you dress affects your self-confidence and how you communicate with others. And dressing appropriately in the work place is respectful to your peers (and students!).

Wow mnw care to add a few more insults? How does the manner in which someone dresses impact you?
Grandma also said it takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. You just proved her point. Thanks

If you want well dressed atheletes, become a hockey fan. As far as actors go, Jewels is right. How do you know they are not preparing for a role?
Oh, and for meek - the profile was written with extreme sarcasm. I hope your grandmother taught you not to believe everything you read. If not, please learn that lesson before you receive an email from a smooth operator somewhere offering to wire money to your bank account if you will just send him your account information.

Stalker, I understand the trappings of the hippie lifestyle have probably really fogged up your cognitive abilities, but your last post was impossibly undiscernable. You may want to get an appointment and be seen by a professional, have a friend dial the number for you if the recurring hallucinations have so distorted your perception as to have rendered your eye site as useless. I hurt for you aging hippie chick. Get well on your long road to recovery :) Think happy thoughts insomuch as is possible.

(sorry, small glitch there) I don’t much care what athletes and actors where or how often they shave. However, I do feel that if you want to be taken seriously you should dress to fit the image you want to project. A Bank president, for example, should dress in a manner that encourages you to trust him/her and to view that person as competant to shepherd your money. The former Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, made his role so much tougher by continually sporting a three-day growth of stubble. Which, when combined with his extreme gauntness and shaved head, made him appear as though he had just stumbled in from skid row, albeit in a donated suit.

Wow..teachers and jeans...how awful! (get real) If it is Levi Dockers or Levi Jeans...it doesn’t matter. Clothes don’t make the person nor make the person do a better job. The shinny white stuff on top of chicken poop is still poop.

Probably a corny comparison but some of you may remember the 1967 movie “To Sir With Love”. Sidney Poitier dressed in jacket and tie every day to set the example, to show respect. Yes I know it was a movie, but sure sent a good message.

Well I should of added more to my post. Who cares what celebrities look like, or how they dress. The latest fashions pretty much come from California, and work their way east anyway. So lets see. We have Yippies, Hippies, and Yuppies. Clothes don’t make the man, so I guess most folks would prefere not to sit next or associate with me. Thats okay. I get some good deals at Garage sales, and jeans and a T shirt are good enough for me. You don’t like it, then you are the one with the problem. I could care less if they are dressed up for the red carpet, or the casual look. Next time your at a wedding, look around to see who’s is your case, is not dressed up. The bride and groom could care less what you wore. You want to wear a 3 piece suit, then by all means do it. I sure won’t put you down for it. Remember Jesse Ventura? He dressed the way he felt comfortable, and so will I. If I look to you that I should be wearing clothes to your specifications, well that just isn’t going to happen. Don’t judge me for what I wear, because you may be really surprised who is wearing those jeans and T shirt. Also you should try and make a habit of not stereotyping or profiling on ones appearance by what they wear. You will misjudge that person, and feel like a fool once you know who it is. PEACE
