What happened to 'paying it forward' for the benefit of Austin

11/7/2009 6:35:02 AM

When our five children were in school, most of our neighbors had already raised their children. Four couples in their 70s and 80s said that, because their kids had a top-notch education, they would vote yes in referendums so our kids could have the same quality education.

Of course, we have a $30 million jail (which we're embarrassed by) to pay for, and then there's the recession, and the beat goes on.

From past experience, we know the school cuts will be made in music, athletics and art.

Yes, we are an older population in Austin, but times have been tougher.
