Dear October: It's the second-to-the-last day of your reign and frankly, a lot of people are going to be thankful to see you go.

Nothing personal, but you've been a pain, especially for farmers.

Your 6.99 inches of incessant rain, drizzle and snow has made you one of the wettest yet recorded in Mower County. Fields are wet, making it hard to harvest crops. A week ago, your unexpected snow made driving hazardous.

Thursday was the second-wettest day you've foisted upon us with 1.47 inches of precipitation. The wettest was 1.6 inches Oct. 1.

Your average temperature of 44.2 degrees is one of the coldest we've seen around here.

At least you're going to give us a small break Saturday as you drift into weather history.

The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis., predicts a chance of rain today, mostly before 1 p.m. followed by temperatures falling to 47 by 5 p.m. It will be breezy with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 35.

Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 46 and still a bit breezy. Saturday evening will be partly cloudy with a low around 33 and even lighter winds.

Then you're out of here.
