Evie Mohrfeld: Big trips are coming up

11/2/2009 8:15:02 AM

It's hard to believe that we are already setting our clocks back and our calendar turns over to November.

That brings around another whole new set of travel adventures. We will begin with our Nov. 5-6 trip to Wisconsin with the Fireside Theater of Fort Atkinson's holiday dinner show "Miracle of Christmas." The Farm Restaurant lunch with our Scandinavian friends, Sven and Anita is the following day.

The early departure time is 7 a.m. We are scheduled for our first stop in Wisconsin at the Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse by 9:30 a.m.

Other scheduled trips are:

• Nov. 18, "Church Basement Ladies" at the Plymouth Playhouse in Plymouth, Minn., presenting "Away in the Basement." Trip is due by Nov. 2. Nov. 28, a weekend dinner show with those same hilarious ladies of the "Church Basement Ladies." Trip is due by Nov. 3. Departing at 11:30 a.m. Dinner prior to the 3 p.m. show is included.

• Dec. 2, Bachman's Floral and Macy's 8th floor Christmas display, along with free time.

• Dec. 8, Mall of America, returning at 5:30 p.m.

• Dec. 21, Oak Ridge Boys Christmas concert, in Rochester.

• Dec. 31-Jan. 1, Oklahoma, at the New Years Eve Gala, at Chanhassen Dinner Theater.

• Jan. 13, Nunset Boulevard at the Chanhassen.

Our recent travel show casing "Ireland in April 2010" brought a lot of interest for this Spring Tour. An early sign-up by Nov. 11 is encouraged and will offer a $100 early discount. This fully escorted trip will highlight many "Cultures and Colors of Ireland."

One of the most requested tourist destinations, each visit there has so much spectacular ocean scenery as picturesque villages as we pass through on a "Ring of Kerry" tour including the 700-foot "Cliffs of Moher" in an 110 mile-scenic drive with many stops along the way.

Visit with the native residents, and join in with them in the pub. The first night's dinner and stay on the Castle Grounds in Kingcourt will have you introduced to the Irish life style very quickly. Many meals included, along with one at the home of the Irish.

Besides the schedule planned, some free time is offered for your special interests.

With the holidays creeping up on so quickly, plans have to be made very soon for our annual New Years Eve Gala, which we have hosted for the past several years.

Our overnight event this year will be back to a favorite covenant location with the Chanhassen Dinner Theater with lodging next door. The bonus is the show offered this year. "Oklahoma," Rodgers and Hammerstein's hit musical, with offers memorable songs such as "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" and "People will say we're in Love."

Wander to the other theaters after we enjoy our choice of choice meals. (lobster, and whiskey steak) plus other great choices. The price has also been reduced from our previous year which will attract those still feeling that crunch but not willing to give up special times like these. Deposits and reservations are needed now to reserve our seating. (If you signed up previously, please contact the travel number to confirm. Then dust off that pretty holiday outfit and join us.)
