On Oct. 26, our lobby was filled with members, coffee and birthday cake.
Delores VonFeldt celebrated her 90th birthday with her YMCA family. She has been a member since 2004 and attends the water fitness class three to five days a week. She has a positive outlook and hates to miss a day, but she knows
she has to take it easy when her knee pain flares up. After her workout, she has coffee and visits with other members. Happy 90th birthday, Delores. What an inspiration you are for others.
Flag football
When we started our season, the skies were blue and hadn't seen rain in 25 days -- a great way to start football. A week or so into the season, the skies opened and it hasn't stop raining. We have struggled through many cancellations, and even extended the season and had to fight against darkness when it wasn't raining. Thank you to the coaches and parents for your time, effort and support. Players, we hope you had a great season and look forward to seeing you next year.
Bulge boot camp
We are offering the sixth annual "Battle the Holiday Bulge" Boot Camp.
This class is geared towards all fitness levels and is a great way to jump start your workout, break through a fitness plateau and beat that holiday bulge. The camp is a 15-session, results-oriented workout, held from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Progress will be documented to show you your results. Two instructors will motivate you to push your limits, increase your strength and endurance and help you achieve your fitness goals. A commitment agreement must be signed at the time of registration. Sessions will begin Nov. 16 and go through Dec. 21 (no class Nov. 27). The cost is $35 for members and $80 for nonmembers. The registration deadline is Nov. 13.
Reminders
• Friday is Family Fun Night, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. There will be jungle gym, kids' gym, family swimming with inflatable toys, light meal and treats, and seasonal crafts. The event is open to all families and is free for members with family memberships or $15 for nonmember families.
• No School Daze (school-age child care) for kindergarten through sixth grade is Nov. 13, when there's a half day of school, and Nov. 23, 24, 25 and 27. It includes swimming and games. Space is limited, so register early. The cost is $25 a day and $20 a day for a second child or $90 for the week and $85 for the week for a second child.
• New members and old members who have not been active in the last year may fall back into the YMCA from Oct. 28 to Nov. 4 with no joiner's fee.
