No it wasn't a wild goose chase, there really was a silver symbol on some of Rochester's "Goose Is Loose" statues.
For the Silver Symbol Hunt, a dime-size goose head symbol was painted on the base of four of the 18 geese.
Those geese were: "Extra! Extra! Read All About It," located at the Post-Bulletin, "Calliope the Muse Goose," located in front of the Rochester Civic Theatre, "Flying Ace" located at the Rochester International Airport, and "History Center Goose" at the History Center of Olmsted County.
As people surveyed the flock and found the symbol, they could fill out a Silver Symbol Hunt entry form.
No one except organizer Bari Amadio of the Rochester Arts Council knew how many geese had the symbol.
All of the entries listing the four correct geese were entered into a prize drawing.
Morgan Lewison won the under-18 drawing and John Marvin won in the over-18 category. Both winners received a $100 Visa gift card.
