Ben Pherson: Jenkins, Faber playing at Eau Claire

Austin High graduates Taylor Jenkins and Kristin Faber are members of the women's hockey team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Faber is a junior forward for the Blugolds, and Jenkins is a sophomore forward. The Blugolds opened their season Friday night with a 4-1 loss to Hamline. Jenkins assisted on UWEC's lone goal, which came in the second period. The Blugolds return to action Friday and Saturday. On Friday, they are at Bethel University, and Saturday they are at home against St. Thomas.

• Austin High graduate Jenna Knudtson is a member of the women's hockey team at Augsburg College. Knudtson is a junior forward for the Auggies. Augsburg had an alumnae scrimmage last weekend and it opens its regular-season schedule Friday at home against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Auggies hit the road Saturday to play at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Last season, Knudtson had seven points, including three goals and four assists.

• Hayfield graduate Leslie Wilson is a member of the women's basketball team at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Wilson is listed as a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard. Wartburg opens its season with a home game against St. Thomas on Nov. 15. Then Wilson and her Wartburg teammates will make a trip to Minnesota. They'll play at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., on Nov. 23.

• Austin High graduate Anna Hebrink is a member of the women's basketball team at Bemidji State University. Hebrink, who transferred to Bemidji State from Riverland Community College, is listed as a 5-foot-8 junior guard. The Beavers open their season Nov. 16 at Mayville State in North Dakota. Bemidji State, which is a Division II school, will play at the Grinnell Tip-Off Tournament in Iowa Nov. 20-21, then the Beavers will head to Phoenix for the Grand Canyon Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 27-28. The Beavers had a rough 2008-09, finishing with a 3-24 record, including 1-19 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

• Austin's Lindsay Lukes is a member of the women's swimming and diving team at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Lukes, who is a captain, is a senior this season for the Pointers. UW-Stevens point opened its season with a pair of dual meets in St. Cloud against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and St. Cloud State. The Pointers defeated UW-Eau Claire 162.5-136.5 and suffered a 219-80 loss to St. Cloud State. Lukes had a fantastic day. She placed second overall in the 200 feestyle with a time of 2:00.09. Lukes also was third overall in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:27.60, and she was third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55;58. She also was a member of the 400 medley relay team that finished third in 4:10.19. UW-Stevens Point returns to action Nov. 13-14 at the Border Battle, a four-team event on the UW-Stevens Point campus. Minnesota State, Mankato, the University of South Dakota and UW-Milwaukee will compete in the event.

• Austin native Shannon Doyle is a member of the women's swimming and diving team at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Doyle, who is a two-time letter-winner, is a junior diver for the Eagles. UW-La Crosse opened its season with its annual alumni meet last weekend. The team opens regular-season action Saturday in Northfield at the Northfield Invitational.
