OAK CENTER -- Chris Silver brings his brand of alternative bluegrass music to the stage of the Oak Center General Store for a concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 7.
Silver formerly played with Stoney Lonesome and the Kate MacKenzie Band. He started his own band in 2003. Silver was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, but has continued to perform and record. In 2008, he won the Minnesota Flatpick Guitar Championship at the state fair.
His latest album, "Fool Yourself," mixes global influences with his traditional sound, and includes songs by Lowell George, Loudon Wainwright III, John Hiatt and Delbert McClinton, as well as originals.

Also coming up at Oak Center is the film "Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat," with river guide Kenny Salwey, who is featured in the film. The film is shown at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 8, followed by a potluck supper at 6 p.m.
