ROCHESTER -- Barbara Kruger Hillesland passed away at Saint Marys Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 24, after a long illness. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Barb was born Feb. 12, 1926, in St. Peter, Minn. She later moved to Rochester, became an Army Cadet and attended Saint Marys School of Nursing. She served as a Registered Nurse at Mayo Clinic for 43 years, until her retirement in 1991. After retirement she moved to Ormond Beach, Fla., to be close to her daughter and granddaughter.
Barb will be remembered for her intellect, her keen wit and sense of humor, her steadfast faith and amazing capacity to love. She was an avid reader, loved to grow flowers and attend symphonies, plays and ballet. She also loved to take long walks with her friends and family. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her beloved granddaughter Gabriella.
Barb is survived by her five children, Kelly Kruger, Robert Kruger, Thomas Kruger, Mary Loessin and Barbara Sather; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many friends in Minnesota and Florida.
A celebration of Barb's vibrant and courageous life will take place in Florida at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barb's honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
