ROCHESTER -- Funeral services for Josephine M. Cassel, 88, of Rochester, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bill Natzke officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and also one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Josephine Mildren Debban was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Charles City, Iowa, to Oscar and Mildren (Almond) Debban. She died on Oct. 30, 2009, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Josephine graduated from Ionia High School in Ionia, Iowa. She worked for Oliver in Charles City for 16 years. She married Al Cassel in 1959 in Mason City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Mason City, where she owned and operated the Elms Hotel for many years. Al passed away in 1963, and Josephine move to Rochester in 1965. She owned and operated the Tutle Guest House, and worked for Family Services.
Josephine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Denise) Smith of Rochester and Dan (Diane) Pooler of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian (Edward) Bartz of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, two brothers and two sisters, and one granddaughter.
