PLAINVIEW -- The funeral service for Maxine C. Marquardt will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, with Pastor David L. Frederickson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.

Mrs. Marquardt, 88, of Plainview, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2009, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Maxine Coral Mogen was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Rochester to Carl and Minnie (Sievert) Mogen. She attended elementary school in Rock Dell and graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester. On June 8, 1940, she married Grant J. Marquardt Sr. in Cresco, Iowa; he died June 28, 1976. They lived in the Rochester area for many years and then moved into Rochester. In 1976 they moved to Plainview.

Maxine worked beside her husband in his many successful family businesses including farming, grocery, real-estate, implement, motorcycle and snowmobiles. The Marquardts were the founders of the Spring Creek Park Motocross in rural Millville. Maxine was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Elder Network, and was a candidate for the Wabasha County Board. She enjoyed dancing, card playing, gardening and politics.

Maxine is survived by a daughter, Donna Hanson of Rochester; two sons, Grant (Diane) Marquardt Jr. of Elgin and James Marquardt of Plainview; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Kay (Dale) Pearson of Rochester; and one brother, Jim (Helen) Mogen of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Carole, and two sisters Jeanie and Mildred.

Friends and relatives may visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.
