Nina F. Jenkins -- Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Nina F. Jenkins, 87, formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 3) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, with Rev. Carol Shaffer officiating. A second service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 4) at Broadway United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs on Wednesday.

Mrs. Jenkins died Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) of natural causes at Prairie Meadows Senior Living in Kasson, where she had resided since 2006.

Nina Frances Reed was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Frank and Leona (Betchel) Reed. She grew up in Missouri Valley, attended school there and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1939. She moved to Council Bluffs to live near relatives and was employed doing clerical work. Nina was married on Oct. 24, 1942, in Council Bluffs to Ivan D. Jenkins.

The Jenkins lived in Council Bluffs for a number of years, where Mrs. Jenkins was employed as a teller at State Bank and Trust. They moved to Stewartville to live near their daughter, Doris, in 2002.

She was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church, where she was an active volunteer, and she was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, following politics and traveling, including trips overseas, as well as dancing and time spent with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris (Chester) Oehlke of rural Stewartville; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Teague of Council Bluffs and Bess (Leo) Stewart of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Phillis Reed of St. Peters, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Glen Stueve of Council Bluffs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, on Jan. 31, 2002; her parents; a sister, Alma Stueve; and two brothers, John and James Reed.

Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday morning.
