ROCHESTER -- Obed A. (Jake) Jacobson, 75, entered eternal life on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his home. Wrapped in the loving arms of his family, he fought a courageous 11-month battle with Lymphoma.
Obed was born June 7, 1934, in Spring Valley, to Reuben and Vera (Johnson) Jacobson. He graduated from LeRoy High School and then worked at the Fillmore County Highway Department in Preston. Obed enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he was employed by IBM where he worked for 32 years. On June 23, 1957, he married Marlene Multhaup of Fountain City, Wis. They made their home in Rochester.
Obed loved to camp and had been an avid camper for 32 years. He and Marlene experienced many adventures with their camping friends. He was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan. In 1990, Obed retired from IBM and continued serving the community by delivering flowers for the Rochester Florists Association and working for LeHigh Shoes for 15 years. Obed served as president of the RCLS School Board. He was a church elder, church council member and Stephen Minister. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, Redeemer Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
Obed loved his family and the time spent with them was his greatest treasure.
Obed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marlene; three daughters, Brenda (Lynn) Clarey, Cheri Jacobson and Terri (Tom) Jacobson-McLaughlin, all of Rochester; a sister, Eunice (Guy) Speed of Goodyear, Ariz.; and a brother, Stanley (Kathy) Jacobson of Byron. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss "Uncle OB" deeply.
