Alan F. Baker -- Nashville, Tenn.

ROCHESTER -- Alan Frank Baker died Oct. 29, 2009, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born Feb. 24, 1961, in Moorhead, Minn., to Harley Frank Baker and Barbara (Gade) Baker. He graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester in 1979.

He enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation. While in the military, he served in Colorado Springs, Colo.; in Odessa, Texas; in Panama; and two tours in Germany. Upon receiving a Medical Discharge, he ended his military career as a Mess Sergeant for the 101st Division in Fort Campbell, Ky. During his 17 1/2 year military career, he received many awards for his distinguished and excellent service. At the time of his death he was working for Vanderbilt University.

He married Catherine Huard-Sanborn on May 6, 1981.

Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents, two uncles and an aunt. He is survived by his wife; a son, Timothy Ray Baker; a stepson, Justin Sanborn; his parents, Harley and Barbara Baker of Rochester; his sister, Susan (Pete) Bromelkamp of Zumbrota; his brother, Michael (Deborah) Baker of Waterford, Wis.; three nieces, Jessi Bromelkamp, Nikki Bromelkamp and Alyssa Baker; and two nephews, Kyle Baker and Shawn Bromelkamp.

His military gravesite service and burial will be held at the Middle Tennesee Military Cemetery in Nashville.

No flowers, please. The family prefers memorials be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
