WANAMINGO -- Linda L. Weikert, 57 of Wanamingo, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview in Minneapolis, surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at New Life Church in Wanamingo, with Pastor Pat McBride officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date.
Linda Lee Sherk was born on June 23, 1952, in Detroit, Mich., to Garrel R. and Ruth E. (nee Rosenberger) Sherk. She lived in Detroit until 1960, when her family moved to Foley, Minn. She attended school in Foley and in 1969 earned a summer scholarship from the Minnesota School of Art. She graduated from Foley High School in 1970, then attended St. Cloud Business School. On Sept. 1, 1972, she married Kenneth Weikert in Estes Brook, Minn. They moved to Rochester in 1977, to Pine Island in 1979 and to Wanamingo in 1989.
Linda was a founding member of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Twin Cities, where she served as secretary for many years. She was also an active member of the Minnesota Purebred Dog Breeders and New Life Church, where she sang in the choir. Linda loved raising and showing Labrador retrievers, which she did for 35 years. She also loved playing guitar, singing, gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
Linda is survived by her husband, Ken; son, Aaron, at home; parents, Jerry and Ruth Sherk; sister Ruth (Gary) Gruba; two brothers William (Candy) Sherk and Scott (Mardel) Sherk, all of Foley; aunts; uncles; nieces; and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her grandparents and a nephew, Keith Sherk.
