ROCHESTER -- Walter E. Laue, 75, of Faribault, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Sunrise Cottages of Rochester.
He was born May 25, 1934, in Lake Belt Township, Minn., the son of Dietrich and Minnie (Kruse) Laue. Walter's family moved to the West Concord area when he was young. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. On Aug. 4, 1956, he married Melba McGirt. The couple were later divorced. Walter farmed near Claremont for many years. He retired from farming in 1995.
In retirement he worked for Mystic Lake Casino driving bus, and resided on Cedar Lake near Faribault.
Walter enjoyed entertaining. He provided Hog Roasts for many people who had special events over the years. He was a member of the Faribault VFW and the Morristown American Legion. Walter also enjoyed playing in a pool league in Faribault.
He is survived by his sons, Rick (and Sharri) Laue of Claremont and Steven (and Carrie) Laue of Dodge Center; daughters, Pamela Clark of Blooming Prairie and Patricia (and Dan) Root of Hayfield; stepmother, Amanda Laue of Pine Island; grandchildren, Danielle, Luke, Mike, Ryan, Tyler, Cody, Israel, Isaac and Hanna; great-grandchildren, Livia, Jaelyn, Amaya, Jade and Lexi; brothers, Larry and Darvin; sisters, Lorna, Lavonne, Karen and Ardis. Walter is also survived by stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Kevin; a brother, David; and sisters, Lois and Delores.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home, with the Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township, with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
