ROCHESTER -- Herbert Milton Parker, age 81, of Rochester, died Nov. 2, 2009, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Mr. Parker was born Oct. 26, 1928. He married Idell F. Prouty on Sept. 30, 1950. Mrs. Parker died on Sept. 7, 2005.

Survivors include children, Cindy (Tom) Novotne of Rochester and Deborah (Charlie) Sheldon of Spring Valley, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife and his son Charles.

Herbert and Idell lived briefly in Winona, then later lived in Rochester, Albert Lea and the Twin Cities before moving back to Rochester in 2000. He has been a resident of Central Towers since 2000.

Herbert worked for Tri-State Tire of Rochester for 23 years before he retired. After retirement he was a caretaker of many apartment complexes in southeastern Minnesota.

Herbert was a Korean War veteran and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macken Funeral Home, with Rev. Linda Helberg officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place on Sunday at Woodbury Cemetery in rural Lyle.
