ROCHESTER -- Ethel M. Van Lith, 91, of Rochester, passed away Oct. 18, 2009, at Charter House.

Ethel was born in Plato, Minn., May 14, 1918. On Nov. 22, 1941, she married Walter H. Van Lith. She was a longtime resident of Rochester before moving to Arizona in 1983. She returned to Minnesota in 2000 with her husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen (Robert L.) MacCarty of Rochester; grandchildren, Francie L. (Joe) St. Onge of Hailey, Idaho, and Robert C. MacCarty of Rochester; and a great-granddaughter, Neve Lee St. Onge of Hailey.

Ethel shared 62 years with her husband, Walter, who preceded her in death. They were partners in business, as well as the enjoyment of life. They enjoyed traveling and cooking together. She was a homemaker and a devout Catholic spending many volunteer hours with her church, St. Francis of Assisi. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family at their cabin in northern Minnesota.

A memorial Mass will be held at Charter House at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 12, with the Rev. Msgr. Gerald A. Mahon officiating. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Macken Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Charter House/Mayo Clinic.
