LAKE CITY -- Ronald Gerken, 88, of Lake City died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Lake City Nursing Home, Lake City.
Ronald A. Gerken was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Hyde Park Township, Wabasha County, to John and Irene (Issendorf) Gerken. He attended Hyde Park School in rural Zumbro Falls, then Rochester High School in Rochester. He married Edith Shea at Lincoln Church in rural Lake City on Oct. 3, 1947, and they were married for 21 years. During those years, they lived and farmed between Hammond and Zumbro Falls. They later divorced. Ronald continued to be involved with farming until his retirement. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Alton of Red Wing, Vicki Gerken of Winona, and Susan (Ronald) Carpenter of Fairbault; two sons, Steven of Belle Plaine, Minn., and Jeffrey (Carmen) of Wabasha, four grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dorance.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake City, with the Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel.
