Richard H. "Dick" Krusmark, 84, of Wabasha, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Wabasha.
He was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Rochester, the son of Jess and Rose (Kline) Krusmark. He married Gladys "Boots" Chadwick Oct. 17, 1948, in Wabasha. Dick was a milk and logging truck driver for his father until 1950 when the couple moved to Mankato. There he drove truck for Archer Daniels Midland for 10 years and then he worked another 10 years in the plant. He and Boots moved back to Wabasha in 1971 following his retirement. In Wabasha, they owned and operated the Big Sioux Campground for many years. Dick also worked as a boiler operator at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing for 21 years until 1992 when he retired to care for his ailing wife. Boots died Dec. 2, 1997.
Dick loved dining out with family and friends and enjoying their company with good conversation, telling of jokes and stories and enjoying it all with a glass of wine. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Craig Halvorson, Sr., Independence, Wis., Nancy Flynn, Chaska, and Vicky and Larry Bellendir, Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, James and Marilyn Krusmark, Plainview; nieces and nephews; and special friend and companion, Orene Longsdorf, Pepin, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, brother, Robert Krusmark and son-in-law, Randy Flynn.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Wabasha, with the Rev. James Clausen officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha.
Casket bearers will be Troy Filand, Craig Halvorson, Jr., Cole Halvorson, Dave Rindahl, Bob Wold and Scott Possin. Honorary bearer will be Jason Krusmark.
Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
At Dick's request, there will be no public viewing of his body.
