ROCHESTER — Roger J. Soma, 71, of Rochester, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 2010) at Saint Marys Hospital.

Roger James Soma was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Austin, to Oscar and Ruth (Moser) Soma. At age 16 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He married Jean A. Kvall in Las Vegas.

He worked as an over-the-road truck driver, a salesman for Clark’s Home Fair and Monarch Ranges, International Transport, the couple owned the Bellchester Tavern, he also worked for Books Mobile Home Park, Larson Construction, and Rochester Sand and Gravel, retiring in 2001.

Roger enjoyed camping, working in his yard, and was an avid NASCAR, Twins and Vikings fan.

At the time of Roger's death he was survived by his wife Jean, she passed away on Feb. 15, 2011.

Survivors include his son, Sheldon (Bonita), and daughter Mary (Chuck) Nordine, both of Rochester; three granddaughters, Stacey, and Shelby both of Rochester, and Jennifer of Wisconsin, one grandson, James of Missouri; 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Nordeen, of Rochester. His parents and many aunts and uncles preceded him in death.

A double celebration of life for both Roger and Jean will be held at 2 p.m. March 12, 2011 at Homestead United Methodist Church in Rochester, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
