Our View: Women's sports won't grow without TV exposure

Early Sunday evening, basketball fans across the country had a chance to watch the University of Minnesota's men's basketball team square off against the Florida Gators.

It was a second-round NCAA tournament contest, and the Gophers didn't exactly shine as a national TV audience tuned in. Displaying many of the same problems that have plagued them all season — poor half-court defense, sloppy ball handling and an inability to hit wide-open shots — the boys in maroon and gold trailed by 21 at halftime and never threatened the Gators in the second half.

Minutes before adjournment, the Minnesota House passed a 93-page jobs bill that had just cleared the Senate. Democrats protested, arguing they did not have time to read the measure. House Speaker Kurt Daudt, a Republican from Crown, dismissed the Democrats' protests and called for a vote. The bill passed 75-9, with just 84 of the 134 House members voting.
