Fall under a spell this weekend while watching "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" as part of Rochester Downtown Alliance’s Movies in the Park.
The annual event series kicks off at 9 p.m. in Central Park Saturday, June 15.
The movie is based on the book by the same name written by J. K. Rowling. The film follows Harry Potter and his friends through their adventures during their first year attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and is rated PG-13.
Harry Potter will be the first of four movies shown downtown as a part of the Movies in the Park series, which shows a movie and holds community activities once a month in Central Park starting in June and ending in September.
The evening’s activities and food will be themed based on the movie being shown, said Katie Adelman, the director of content and communications at the RDA.
Saturday evening will consist of some enchanting events. Starting at 7 p.m., community members will be able to have their past, present and future revealed in a tarot card reading from Owl in the Oak Tree Tarot. The readings will cost $20 for a 15-minute session.
Continuing the magic theme, fans of Hogwarts herbology can create make-and-take planters from Canvas and Chardonnay. The planters will cost $6 each, but RDA will pay for the first 50 people.
The activities, which are presented by Charter House, will be different at each event and will be tailored for the movie being shown, according to Adelman.
Along with the activities Saturday, Cameo at the Castle will be selling chicken tenders with Harry Potter-themed dipping sauces called Butterbeer, Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Quidditch. Cameo Restaurant will also serve beverages for all ages with the addition of Polyjuice Potion for those 21 years of age or older.
Additionally, Cold Stone Creamery will serve ice cream and Caroll’s Corn will offer the classic movie snack, popcorn. Food will be served before and during the movie.
The movies shown for the rest of the summer are "Crazy Rich Asians," "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," and "The Birds."
Seating will not be provided, so those who attend should bring a chair or blanket to sit on.
If you want to bring your owl, cat, or toad, pets are welcome at the event as long as they are kept on leashes.
Rochester Downtown Alliance will post on their website and social media if the event will be cancelled because of weather. If the event is cancelled it will not be rescheduled.
