Art in the Parkreturns to Lanesboro’s Sylvan Park this weekend, with nearly 100 fine art and craft booths, live music, and fabulous festival food. The annual affair attracts thousands every year. It’s impossible to sum up the spectacle, but if you haven’t yet been, here are some compelling reasons to check it out Saturday.

The art

Painters. Potters. Photographers. Jewelers. Glassblowers. Woodworkers. And that’s only scratching the surface. More than 90 artists from the tri-state region exhibit under canopies at Sylvan Park.

The crafts

It’s Father’s Day Weekend, so Lanesboro Arts will host activities for any groups looking to spend their family time at the park. All supplies are provided. And keep an eye out for other activities by the Northern Clay House, the Rochester Art Center, and Arthaus of Decorah. More of a watcher than a doer? There will also be a henna artist and face painter on-site.

The music

Keep an ear out for live music throughout the day, from the following artists:

10 a.m. – Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, a pop- and country-inflected improvisational quartet.

12:30 p.m. – Joyann Parker, a blues-rock singer and instrumentalist.

3:15 p.m. – Jaedyn James & The Hunger, an eight-piece vintage funk/soul band with a lot of horns.

The food

Stuff your face at Lanesboro Arts’ meatball booth, grab a pulled pork or smoked chicken sandwich from Biggen’s BBQ of Peterson, or assemble a taco spread from Lanesboro Public Schools’ Tex-Mex Trip. Stop by Rochester’s Kinney Creek Brewery booth for a refreshing drink. The Friends of the Lanesboro Library will offer desserts, and the local Farmers Market will be on-site with healthier far. And definitely save room for that famous pie and ice cream booth by Lanesboro Arts.
