ST. PAUL — There was a total of 605 beef cattle shown at the 2019 Minnesota 4-H Beef Show held Aug. 22-23 at the Minnesota State Fair.
The supreme champion market beef was shown by Ben Freking of Jackson County and was the champion in Division III crossbred steer.
Teagan Young of Winona County took overall champion with a Division II crossbred steer.
Elizabeth Wasmoen of Freeborn County took third overall market beef with her reserve champion Division III crossbred steer. Fourth overall market beef was shown by Sawyer Otto of Redwood County with his reserve champion Division II steer. The fifth overall market beef was shown by Ethan Varilek of Jackson Countywith his champion Maine-Anjou Steer.
The grand champion dairy steer was shown by Landon Mattson of Freeborn County. The steer was the champion from Division IV. The reserve champion was the champion steer from Division III and was shown by Madison Mattson of Freeborn County.
The supreme champion breeding heifer was exhibited by Jake Jackson of Cottonwood County and was a Simmental heifer. Dawson Johnson of Pipestone County took overall reserve champion with his Angus heifer. The third overall breeding heifer was shown by Ryan Hegland of Dakota County with a Charolais heifer. Haley Schwecke of Sibley County took fourth overall with her Charolais heifer. The fifth overall breeding heifer was shown by Meta Tewes of Jackson County with an angus heifer.
The supreme champion cow/calf was shown by Lydia Coonrod of Dakota County with an Angus pair. Justin Mente of Rock County took overall reserve campion with his all other breeds pair. Third overall was shown by Paige Boesl from Douglas County who showed a commercial cow/calf pair.
