ST. PAUL — This year marks the 40th consecutive year of the Purple Ribbon 4-H Livestock Auction at the Minnesota State Fair.
The premiums on over 100 purple ribbon 4-H exhibits will be sold in the livestock auction, which will be held this year on Aug. 24 in the Compeer Arena at the State Fairgrounds. 40 scholarships totaling over $60,000 will be awarded to outstanding 4-H students in the Minnesota 4-H animal science program.
The annual 4-H Beef Championship Event will be held at the fair on Aug. 23 in the Coliseum. This year's event includes the selection of the grand and reserve champions of market beef, dairy steer, breeding heifer, cow/calf and prospect market calf exhibits.
The championship event will represent the "best of the best" of around 600 4-H members exhibiting beef projects, said Kent Thiesse, coordinator of the show. Winners of the 4-H Beef Interview and Minnesota State Fair Youth Scholarship recipients will also be recognized at the event.
Over 3,000 4-H members will exhibit beef, dairy, swine, sheep, poultry, rabbits, dairy goats and llamas at State Fair on August 22-25.
