Alvis F. More, 77, of rural Mapleton, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at his home from injuries sustained in a farm accident.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Glenn Korb officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Freedom Township in Waseca County.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services at church.
Alvis Fay was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Mankato, to Fay and Helen (Burnell) More. He attended Pemberton Schools. Alvis worked for Nordaas American Homes prior to his military service. He served in the United States Army from August of 1954 until his honorable discharge in June of 1956. Alvis returned home, and on Sept. 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Carol Jean Schull at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Alvis and Carol raised their family and farmed in McPherson Township, and later Medo Township.
In addition to farming, Alvis volunteered his time to many area organizations. He had served on the board of directors for: Blue Earth County Pork Producers, Farmamerica, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Region Nine, and Blue Earth County Extension. Alvis was proud to have served Blue Earth County as a Commissioner for 14 years. He also spent time as a VINE Volunteer and Waseca County Big Brother, and over the years was active as a St. Clair Athletic Backer and in the St. Clair PTA. Alvis loved taking pictures, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and enjoyed the tours he and Carol guided to Alaska, Germany, and Hawaii. Alvis also played Santa Claus for many years. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freedom Township where he had served on the church board, and a member of the St. Clair American Legion Post #475.

He is survived by his wife Carol; by his children and their families, Steve (Noreen) More of Pemberton and their children, Sara (Jamie) Will, Melissa (Zach) Sonnek and Brian; Jeff (Julie) More of Mapleton and their children, Jennifer (Matt) Marzen, Joshua, Justin, Jessica and Jodi; Debra (Carl) Fugleberg of Byron and their children, Tim, Stephanie, Colleen, Natalie and Amanda; Lynda (Steve) Kruse of St. Clair and their children, Bradley, Kendra, Derek, Maria and Elijah; Marvin (Alicia) More of St. Clair and their children, Matthew and Andrew; Larry (Lori) More of Byron and their children, Allison, Ethan and Abigail; by his two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Jack Will; by his brothers, Kenneth (Margie) More of Minnesota Lake, Fay (Darlene) More of Anoka and Charles More of Lonsdale; by his sisters, Violet Stenzel of Minnesota Lake, Betty Lou Fendrich of Wells, Evangeline Stenzel of St. Peter, Ella May (Paul) Brastner of Loveland, Colo., and Pearl (Willard) Lantz of Mapleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin More and sister, Thelma (Eddie) Evan.
