Arla M. Swee, 91, of Rochester, died on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Seasons Hospice.

The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, April 22, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Dale Lutheran Church, with Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.

Arla Marion Swee was born on July 11, 1919, in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, to Martin T. and Bertha (nee Lunde) Grove. She grew up on the Grove family farm and attended country school. On June 30, 1939, she married Ragner A. Swee at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Wanamingo and later farmed near Berne, Wanamingo and Pine Island. In 1966 they moved back to Wanamingo and Arla did house cleaning. In 1987 they moved to Rochester.

Arla was a lifelong member of Dale Lutheran Church and she enjoyed taking car rides, going out to eat, and playing with her son Larry’s dog, "Dawson."

Arla is survived by her son, Larry (Patricia) Swee of Pine Island; daughter, Rochelle (Jerry) Swenson of Hubbard, Iowa; granddaughters, Joelle (Karlton) Krause of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Jodi (Mal) McLean of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Quinton, Kassidy and Jack Krause, and Molly and Trey McLean; brother, Menton (Marilyn) Grove of Kasson; and sister, Ruthie Lorentz of the Twin Cities.

Arla was preceded in death by her husband, Ragner; and sisters, Berdella Swee, Burnette Beckstrom and Ruth Walker.

Memorials are preferred to Dale Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.

Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota assisted the family with arrangements.
