ROCHESTER — The funeral service for Arthur "Art" J. Anderson, Jr., will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, with Pastor Deanna Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Oronoco Cemetery in Oronoco, with military rites by the Millville Valley Legion Post #579.

Mr. Anderson, 79, of rural Rochester, died Tuesday afternoon March 29, 2011, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Arthur John Anderson, Jr., was born June 29, 1931. in La Crosse, Wis., to Arthur and Myrtle (Olson) Anderson. He attended school in Houston, and graduated in 1949 from Houston High School. Art served in the US Army from Sept. 26, 1950, to Sept. 11, 1953. On Nov. 20, 1959, he married Janice Lyke in Rochester, she died Jan. 7, 1999. Art lived in rural Rochester for many years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1995. He also farmed and raised Polled Herefords as well as Clydesdale Horses, which were his true passion. Art loved his Clydesdales and participated in many area community events, including parades, fairs, weddings and holiday events.

He was very active in the Olmsted County Fair — Draft Horse Division. He had a great love for animals and was a very respected man in the community. He was also a member of the Millville Valley Legion Post #579.

Art is survived by two daughters, Susan (Michael) Meyer of Rochester, and Nancy (John) Meyer of Mazeppa; one son, Thomas (Gina) Anderson of Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Janis.

Friends and family may visit from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
