Brian James Shandley, 24, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Saint Marys Hospital from injuries sustained in a tragic accident.

Brian was born Sept. 27, 1986, to TJ and Deb (Kamradt) Shandley in Rochester. He graduated from Mayo High School in 2005 and furthered his education by attending RCTC, where he received an honors degree in Associate and Applied Science; Building Utilities Mechanic. He began his career at Saint Marys Hospital as a dispatcher in maintenance in 2007. With his hard work and drive, he received his dream job as an assistant operator at the Saint Marys Hospital power plant in November 2010.

Brian loved spending time with family and friends. He had a smile that lit up a room and people always wanted to be around him. He was an adventurous person who enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed trips to the Shedabin in northern Wisconsin and also his grandparent’s family cabin in Spirit Lake, Iowa, where many great memories were made by all.

Brian is survived by his parents, TJ and Deb Shandley; Beth Timm, significant other and buddy’s soul-mate; his sisters, Nicole and Sarah Shandley of Rochester; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Karen Kamradt, Archer, Iowa; his paternal grandmother, Julie Shandley, Rochester; maternal aunt, Dawn (Doug) Biedenfeld, Peterson, Iowa; Sheila (John) Tatman, Spencer, Iowa, Brad (Angie) Kamradt, Sanborn, Iowa; paternal aunt, Jamey (Jeff) Shandley, Rochester; Richard Shandley, Rochester, Melissa Shandley, Divide, Colo., Hilary (Denny) Becker, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and cousins, Tayler, Chance, Dustin, Jenna, Payton, Travis and Ryan. Brian was preceded in death by his maternal uncle, Steve Kamradt, his paternal cousin, Drew Hewitt, and his paternal grandfather, Richard Shandley.

He was known as a caring and giving person and even in death, his giving continues as his donation of tissue and organs will live on in Wisconsin and North Dakota.

The visitation will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011, from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. The funeral service is at the Church of the Resurrection on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be distributed to various organizations to be determined by the family at a later date.
